What is the first thing you think about in the morning?
“This one definitely varies…..and I know this is going to sound cheesy but generally the first thing I think about is music; putting some on, playing some, thinking about a part in a song I cannot get out of my head. Music just glues itself to my brain somehow… it’s like a very natural process for the way my mind functions. Oh and I think about having a glass of water usually, putting on some socks too.”

D_02

How would you describe yourself?

“Well there are many aspects to “me” I guess. I am one whole person but different circumstances bring out different characteristics. In my friendships I would say I am very loyal, fun, generous and inclusive. At my job, in my work life I would say I am very self-directed and task oriented; personable with clients and always wanting to help people improve their lives. I would say on all levels, on the more negative end of my personality I can fall into being super critical, judgemental and not easily trusting of others. My brother describes me as a “card”, my mother probably describes me as ridiculous at best ….generally I tell people I am a 40 year old man in a 23 year old girl’s body (what that means to someone who is reading this and doesn’t know me… I’m not really sure). I guess overall I am just Dannika.”

D_03D_05D_04

Who has influenced you the most?

“I would say my Baba Marion (my dad’s mother) has been the most influential in how I live my life and how I make my choices. She is a very naturally spiritually connected woman and has so much wisdom that I just want to soak it all up as much as possible. She has really instilled the idea of having a “purpose” in my heart—this truly keeps me going and this also inspires a lot of subject matter for my music.
For the more artistic influences anything old; 60’s/ 70’s music, fashion, photography, art, TV shows (I am really enamoured with Three’s Company). I am really captivated by those generations’ uses of colours, patterns and just a more vibrant & hopeful view of the world. With this “Good Morning” CD project I really wanted the themes to come through properly in the photography and in the artwork as a compliment to the music I had created. For whatever reason I feel most like myself wearing bellbottom jeans, sitting down and listening to a Jefferson Airplane album or watching interviews of musicians or performers from the era– just how people presented and held themselves then—it just seems like I was born a little bit too late and I often feel out of place with societal norms in present day.
For strict musical influences most definitely Silver Apples, Moody Blues, Adrian Belew, Jefferson Airplane (of course), YES!, Jim Croce, Peter Green, Fiona Apple, Bat For Lashes, Joni Mitchell, The Carpenters, Electric Prunes, Heart, Velvet Underground, Ultimate Spinach, David Axelrod….after this I would probably just start listing all of the artists that I love so I have to stop myself here. However I would say that everyone I listed is a big and direct influence on my music. I feel like while my music has congruent qualities that make it it’s own;  I also really enjoy writing and performing all sorts of styles that I would say “deviate” from my styling’s.  So I would say that’s why my influences are over the place … or a better way of saying that I guess is ‘”eclectic”.”

DL_02DL_05DL_04DL_03

Where and with whom do we find you on a Friday night?

“I am 50% introvert and 50% extravert. So Friday nights can either be very lively and you can find me with my best buds Juditte and Soph getting up to no good…..or you can find me eating an entire brick of organic cheese and then passing out on the couch next to my Baba while she is watching the miracle channel.”

DL_06IMG_7103

What makes life meaningful?

“Purpose makes life meaningful. To have something that drives me, that is fruitful and has a perpetual unfolding outcome… that is meaningful. Or just walking around outside at twilight and hearing the birds chirp over the purpley sky… a well executed hug….love I guess– whatever that looks like. I guess love can make life meaningful or rather it does. Music does because music is omnipresent. It’s at weddings, funerals, playing in the grocery store, at church, summer camp, city bus… you don’t need any tools outside of yourself you can simply sing…you can’t really escape music. It’s in everything ; so as it is in everything it can encompass every meaningful subject for ever and ever amen.”

D_09D_07D_08

Best thing to do on a rainy day?

“Probably eating lasagne or shopping with friends. I don’t want to say watching a movie because I have little patience to sit and watch most movies or shows. I have to be like really tired for that.”

Favourite book?

“My favourite book is probably “A Clockwork Orange”. I can’t say I am a violent person and that I enjoy the actual violent and crude things that are carried out by Alex and his Droogs in the book… but I think it’s a very great narrative on society and is really relevant in pop culture as a way for people to maybe actually think about things.
I am also totally in love with the “Weetzie Bat” series of books by Francesca Lia Block. They are adult themes presented in a fairy tale way. They are really beautiful and really get to the depth of emotion in the way the stories are presented.”

D_015D_013D_T_06

What do you like most about yourself?

“I like most about myself that I am able to objectively evaluate things in life before jumping in and making dumb ass decisions. I also like that I have a creative approach to most things I do in my life.”

A few moments with T. Lane Design

A couple months back I did a jewelry lookbook photoshoot with the talented T. Lane Design. She is such a fantastic artist and beautiful soul, I was able to do a short interview with her!

TL_03.jpg

How would you describe yourself?

I am really bad at describing myself and try never to put labels on myself or anyone else. I guess I am determined to surprise people. I like a bit of mystery and hope that transfers to my work.

Who has influenced you the most?

I am influenced by the people I keep close to me and also, lately, Walt Whitman and Tom Robbins.

tlane_j_021tlane_j_060tlane_j_132

What inspired you to get into fashion & jewelry design?

Since I was very young I’ve been interested and inclined toward fashion and design. I have always been inspired to bring out the beauty of an individual. It’s like unveiling a mystery.

What’s one thing you’re most proud of?

In life, the thing I’m most proud of is my daughter. But in business, I’m most proud of not selling out. My work is ethical, handcrafted and completely one of a kind. Each piece is a work of art, just like the humans they are created for.

Where and with whom do we find you on a Saturday night?

Well, this past Saturday, I was at my place with my closies making amazing food, indulging in a good red wine, practicing my billiards and playing dress up in my upstairs vintage shop.

A Few Moments With LeeLee La Belle ♡

LeeLee La Belle – Photographed by Miz Lulu

♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡  ♡

How would you describe yourself?
A sensual feminist with a dry sense of humour. A dancer, an artist, a big kid; I’m just another perfectly Imperfect soul, trying to do my best and be a good person.

Which Burlesque dancers influenced you and what makes a great Burlesque dancer?
The local Kootenay burlesque talent has such an impact on me, as we train and perform together. I fell in love with Burlesque in Victoria, so shout out to Sweet Dee and Rosie Bitts. I also love international performers such as Pearl Noir (a true athlete), Miss Miranda (epically graceful), and Lola Frost (Canadian goddess).
A great burlesque dancer is a confident woman who expresses her individuality thru the medium of strip-tease. Like any art form, an individual’s personal flare is what makes it special. There are the basics tho: slow grace, poise, facial expressions, smooth removals, and cohesive themes.

What do you dream about?
A world where body-shaming, rape culture, raceism, and predjudice of all kinds is a thing of the past. I also dream about a full body massage by Taye Diggs and PeteBox.

Best thing to do on a rainy day?
Hike into the natural hotsprings. I love the long drive out to Nakusp, rocking my tunes too loud and singing badly. Then the hike is so exhilarating. The hotsprings are so blissful and healing.

The most important thing in life?
Balance. In work, in social situations, physically, and emotionally. Balance is key. To find balance is to be able to listen to your intuition and instinct and be honest with yourself.

Passion_08Passion_06Passion Moon Potions is a Luxurious and Indulgent Skin Care line, handmade in Kona Hawaii. I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Francesca Azar, the founder and creator of Passion Moon Potions to review and share some of her luxurious products with you!

You can check out Francesca’s Etsy store here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/PassionMoonPotions?ref=l2-shopheader-namePassion_01I received this Moisturizing Leave in Condition in the scent “Sweet Orange” which I have been really loving. This leave in conditioner comes in 9 different scents, I have quite curly hair naturally and this leave in conditioner really helps the curls stand out and hold bounce. This is perfect for at the beach and just everyday use after showering! My roommate and I are absolutely in love with this leave in conditioner and can’t get enough of it! It smells so refreshing with a creamy orange scent and leaves your hair looking and feeling nice and smooth.

Moisturizing Leave in Conditioner $9.07+ :  https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/225381168/moisturizing-leave-in-conditioner-hair?ref=shop_home_feat_1

“The perfect easy-to-use conditioner for all types of hair. This light spray won’t weigh down even the finest hair. Our Leave-in Detangler uses Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein and Castor Oil to smooth and condition the cuticle making it easy for combs and brushes to get through all your curls, waves, and knots! It’s perfect for after swimming in the ocean, or for any extra frizz.  Scented with pure essential oils and fragrances.”

Passion_02My next product i’ve been really loving is this Clarifying Cleanser for Oily Skin. This is a super gentle cleanser that feels silky smooth on the skin. I love that Francesca includes directions on how to properly use this face wash. Advising to be gentle and to not add too much pressure, cleansing in circular upwards motion. These are all natural, handmade, vegan and cruelty free products which I truly admire!

“This Clarifying Cleanser is an incredibly adsorbent, refreshing one-step cleanser which is packed with extracts, vitamins and oils that will moisturize so as not to destroy your lipid barrier, while the charcoal deeply cleans. Blended with lemon and lemongrass essential oils, perfect for oily skin types.”

She also offers cleansers for all types of skin, so be sure to check out the other cleansers if this one isn’t for your skin type!

Passion_09Passion_010My last product I have from Passion Moon Potions is this Lip Tint in the colour “Cherry Merlot”. If you’ve read other posts of mine or watched some of my youtube you will know I am a redwine fan so this was perfect for me! The tint isn’t too pigmented so it can be used as an everyday lip moisturizer. This lip tint is deffinitely on the smoother side of lip tints, it glides on very nicely and keeps your lips hella moisturized. Made with olive and coconut oils, cocoa and kokum butters, beeswax and natural flavors, xylitol (naturally occurring in many fruits and vegetables) and Aloha ❤

“Sweet Cherries, with a deep merlot red color. A perfect lip color for a night out, or just a bit of color for your day. This lip tint is made with lip softening oils and butters, and colored with lip safe mica. Sweetened with stevia, tastes and smells, and looks beautiful.”

Passion_03Passion_04Passion_05I also had the pleasure of doing a quick interview with Francesca from Passion Moon Potions!♡

Miz Lulu [Q]: What inspires you to create Passion Moon Potions?

Passion Moon Potions [A]: I love to create products that make people feel good. I’m inspired by this gorgeous island. Flowers, foods, desserts. Anything that entails you to be nice to yourself.

Q: What are two products you use on the daily?
A: Whipped sugar scrubs and Kau’i Oil

Q: Where did the name Passion Moon Potions come from?
A: Passion Moon Potions began from my love of pastry and desserts combined with the importance of lavishing oneself in quality skin care. I always loved being in the kitchen creating delicious things to eat. Baking sweets & decadent desserts was a way for me to express my love for this art through complex flavors and textures combined. As a coffee connoisseur, I also enjoyed making gorgeous designs in lattes using my artistic nature with the creamy coffee textures. I always enjoyed making desserts for people and was happy to put a satisfied smile on their faces. Finding the baking world to be far too fast paced, I decided to start my own business to continue following my love of this art and keep my passions alive. I made the leap from desserts to skincare and combined my love for desserts and sweet smelling skin products into literal desserts for the skin. Flowers have always drawn me in for their sweet scents and beauty. These floral expressions are embodied within my skin care products. For women, the moon represents a source of connection with nature. As I was experimenting with my own recipes and creating luxuries for the skin, I created many potions in my laboratory, evolving into Passion Moon Potions.

Q: When did you start creating your own skin care products?
A: I started back in 2000, went from a hobby to a business somewhere around 2006.

Q: What do you do when you’re not creating potions and filling orders?
A: I work a couple days at my family’s organic cafe. Enjoy Island life. Head to the beach, swim, relax, read. Play around with new product ideas. I focus my life on feeling good and having fun. 🙂Passion_011

Be sure to check out Passion Moon Potions on Etsy! She’s got tons of lovely skin care products for every type of person! ❤

Voodoo Herbals – All Natural Products

Voodoo_01Good afternoon my lovely beans, today I have a special post review for you!  I recently teamed up with Jessica Johnston from Voodoo Herbals to showcase and review some of her all natural, cruelty free, river friendly and homemade goodies!  I was able to do a short interview with Jessica so we could get to know her a bit better!

Shop Voodoo Herbals here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/Voodooherbal?ref=pr_shop_more

Miz Lulu (ML) : Where you are from and where are your products are made?

Voodoo Herbals (VH): Im from a tiny little town in Oregon called Grass Valley population less than 100. My products are made at my house (for now).

ML:  Where your passion comes from to create these products?

VH: I find it unbelievable how many nasty harsh chemicals are found in damn near everything. I was giving my daughter a bath one day and started reading the shampoo label and realized I couldn’t pronounce a quarter of what was in it and that really motivated me to make the bath and beauty products I have (with many many more on the way). As for the herbal remedies I make, I remember my grandma always had a herb for everything while I was growing up, and once I grew up (now living 100s of miles from grandma) I still use some of her remedies today. Where we live we do not have access to doctors, hospitals or grocery stores unless you want to make a 2 hour trip. simple things like cough medicine or ointments or really anything….. doesnt come to easily out here so I learned to make them myself 🙂

ML: What is your occupation other than an etsy store owner?

VH: Oh gosh lol so much. I am the chief of flags at Oregon Raceway Park, I run Voodoo Herbs on and off Etsy, part time housekeeping for some businesses around the county, full time mommy, and a micro farmer/ homesteader. I stay pretty busy 🙂

ML: How long has Voodoo Herbal been going for?

VH: Almost a year 🙂 it will be one year in July

ML: What made you choose the name Voodoo Herbal?

VH: The name was actually chosen for me. I had been making herbal remedies for friends, family, and neighbors for awhile and they would all tease me calling me a voodoo woman as a joke because everything I would make them usually helped out really well with whatever they needed it for. So when it came time for me to pick a name for my shop i asked everyone what it should be and everyone picked Voodoo Herbs/Herbal so it just kinda stuck.

ML: What are you doing on your days you’re not taking orders and creating products!

VH: Well if i’m not working at the racetrack or for the shop I am usually home taking care of my daughters (ages 2 and 8) and taking care of the homestead and animals. I also do a lot of gardening, canning, and I even sometimes crochet if I have the time lol. Its never ending work but its so worth it.

Voodoo_08I’ve been using this soap for about a week now, Jessica offers custom natural goat milk soap bars with a huge list of scent options. I received the Amber/Goat Milk Soap bar which I am absolutely in love with! Amber is one of my favourite scents of all time and mixes so nicely together with the goats milk. Every time I wash my hands I can’t stop smelling them >.< So yummy!

Check out all the different scents & herbs for pre-made and custom goat milk soap bars!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/239962828/natural-goat-milk-soap

“If you have a particular scent or scents you would like added message me with your request and we will make it happen for you. All soaps have added shea butter to keep skin moist. The sample bar gives you a good amount of uses so you can try before you buy a full bar :)”Voodoo_02The next items I have here are 3 custom bathbomb’s  in “Lemongrass”, “Cinnamon Spice” and “Cupcake”. I’ve already used the Lemongrass one which I really enjoyed, I have some video footage of it in my favourites video I will have live on my youtube shortly! These are super adorable and make baths super fun ^.^

https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/255473769/custom-bath-bomb-set-of-6-or-12?ref=related-3 Voodoo_07Voodoo_05Last Voodoo Herbals included two sample sized salves for me to try out, (all of these products can be custom made to your preferred scent) She included a “Migraine & Headache Salve” which is a soothing menthol scent. I use this even if I don’t have a headache because I love the smell so much 😛 The other she included was a “Frankincense & Cinnamon” which I really enjoy the two together! I’m a bit of a cinnamon fan, so I could be smellin’ on this all day in my cinnamon spice bath later tonight! MMMM CINNAMON GOODNESS ❤

https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/235594059/custom-made-salve?ref=shop_home_active_28

I included these goodies in my monthly favourite’s which will be live shortly!
